Credit Management

Using credit correctly is one of the foundations of a financially sound life. If you have good credit, you will be able to save a lot of money thanks to better financing terms and lower interest. Cash is also a lot easier to access in case of emergencies. Building good credit takes time, and managing it takes discipline.

Credit in and by itself is neither good nor bad. It could either lead to bankruptcy or it could lead to the realization of your goals and aspirations. It all depends on how you use your credit

Proper Use Of Credit

A smart way of using your credit is to purchase assets that will either increase in value in time or enable you to generate money. This a good way to build your fortune, assuming or course the you do not become over-leveraged.

Improper Use of Credit

Using credit to purchase the latest gadgets, go on shopping sprees or on extravagant vacations that you can’t really afford can have a huge negative effect on you credit score. Accumulating massive credit card debts on consumable items will leave you with nothing but high interest rates which could lead to bankruptcy.

Building Credit

As mentioned earlier, building good credit takes time. A lot of people start building credit when they get their first credit card and sign their first cellphone contract. By paying the monthly bill on time, rarely using the credit card to purchase things and paying the full balance every month, a person starts building a good credit history. A college student will move in to his first apartment and pay the rent on a monthly basis. Later on, he will get his first car. Eventually, he will get his own house. After a few years of making all of those payments on time, that person will have a very good credit history.

Managing Credit

Credit management is largely about common sense. To manage your credit properly, set a budget and stick to it. It requires the discipline to live within your means, to forgo instant gratification and not purchase anything that you can’t afford.
